Cosmetic surgery, finding the new you.

Whilst it can never be said the staff at McIndoe are camera shy, many of them having assisted participating surgeons being filmed for shows such as Sky’s Extreme Makeover UK, My Naked Secret, Supersize Vs Super skinny or CH4’s hugely popular Embarrassing Bodies. The request from a patient to assist with his Straight 8 film for this year’s prestigious film festival was an opportunity not to be missed.
Patient Mauricio visited plastic surgeon Mr Baljit Dheansa for reconstructive surgery following a horrific accident which almost proved fatal whilst buying Brazilian beef in his local deli for a family BBQ. A van careered into the shop and pinned Mauricio to the wall back in July 2009 and turned his life upside down.
Using an old Straight 8 camera Mauricio decided to shoot a three minute film on his ordeal titled La Carve Vale – Is meat valid?
‘If I had been vegetarian I would not have been in the shop,’ said Mauricio. ‘It is a fictional story which sees me going into a consulting room to talk to a pioneering researcher who is trying to invert peoples taste. The whole film is me talking to her with footage of a car crash and evidence of my scars.’
Katy Muir, Marketing Manager who bravely took charge of the camera whilst Mauricio had his operation, said ‘To be honest I was very nervous about being asked to film the surgeons first cut in the operating theatre. I knew how much the project meant to Mauricio and the fact he wasn’t allowed to see or edit the content prior to the films screening just added to the responsibility! Mauricio was a fantastic patient and we were delighted we could assist, albeit with this very unusual request.
Staff at McIndoe Surgical Centre honoured on International Nurses Day
May 18th, 2012
In celebration of International Nurses Day, staff, consultants and patients at the hospital joined millions of people internationally in honouring the hard work, dedication and professionalism of nurses around the globe.
International Nurses Day, which is held every year on May 12th, is a day of recognition and celebration as nurses worldwide unite to take pride in their jobs and highlight the important role they play in the delivery of healthcare provision worldwide. It is also the birth date of Florence Nightingale, who is considered to be the founder of modern nursing.
To celebrate the day, McIndoe nursing staff were presented with cake and chocolates and thanked for their hard work and dedication. Janice Gauld, Director of Clinical Services at The McIndoe Surgical Centre said: Internationally Nurses day allows us the opportunity to thank our staff for their excellent work throughout the year. At times delivering high quality care to our patients can be exhausting but due to our dedicated nursing staff we are consistently achieving this. McIndoe achieved the number one spot for delivering patient satisfaction out of 60 BMI hospitals in the most recent Howard Warwick audit. The patients often comment how friendly and comfortable the hospital is, and how enjoyable their stay with us is. I really must thank my team for their continued dedication.’
