Ear Correction (Pinnaplasty/Otoplasty)
Restoring confidence…
Has your self-confidence been affected by large or protruding ears? If the answer is yes then ear correction surgery (Pinnaplasty) is the perfect solution to make you feel good – both inside and out.
Protruding or imbalanced ears, or ears that are out of proportion with other facial features can be a source of embarrassment for many people. Ear correction offers clear and very rewarding results.
The operation can be performed under a local or general anaesthetic. Small incisions will be made in the natural crease behind the ear, through which your consultant surgeon will re-shape or remove the cartilage. The ear is then stitched back into place in the correct position.
Pinnaplasty is a quick operation and often you will be able to go home on the same day. When it's time for you to leave hospital, you will be given a follow up appointment with your consultant, and/or the dressing clinic for the removal of any stitches, together with any medication prescribed. However, you will need to plan for a week at home to recover and heal comfortably, and should avoid any strenuous work or activity for at least four weeks.
For a week following your operation, it will be necessary to wear bandages around your ears, and smaller bandages for a few weeks after that to ensure the natural healing process happens as quickly and effectively as possible.
In some cases, pinnaplasty can be treated in the minor operations room in Outpatients.
