Polypectomy
Restoring quality of life… A Polypectomy may be necessary if you suffer from polyps causing nasal blockage. At McIndoe our specialist consultants are dedicated to providing the very best treatment - so you can get on with enjoying your life.
Nasal polypectomy is an operation to remove polyps that are hanging down from the sinuses into the nose causing blockage. The operation can be performed with local or general anaesthetic. You will normally go home the same day. The procedure is performed through the nostrils inside the nose. An endoscope is used to light the inside of the nose and to provide a close up view of the polyps. The area is magnified on a television. The polyps are removed with small, specially designed instruments that either take them away like removing grapes from a stalk or they can be removed with a very precise shaver.
Patients return to work the next day.
Patients with very widespread polyps may require functional endoscopic sinus surgery rather than the smaller nasal polypectomy procedure.
