Grommet Insertion
Restoring quality of life… Grommet insertion may be necessary if you suffer from ‘glue ear’. At McIndoe our specialist consultants are dedicated to providing the very best treatment - so you can get on with enjoying your life.
Grommet insertion is carried out in patients who have 'glue ear' which is a common condition where fluid collects in the middle ear behind the eardrum, causing repeated earache, infection, discharge from the ear and deafness.
Grommet insertion is usually performed under a general anaesthetic and takes about twenty minutes. It is possible to carry out this surgery under local anaesthetic.Your surgeon will make a small hole in the eardrum and remove the fluid by suction. They will then place a plastic or metal grommet in the hole.
You can go home the same day.
