Functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS)
Restoring quality of life… Functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS) may be necessary if you suffer from sinusitis. At McIndoe our specialist consultants are dedicated to providing the very best treatment - so you can get on with enjoying your life.
FESS is minimally invasive surgery performed on patients who have sinusitis, with or without polyps. Every patients sinuses are different and so each FESS operation is tailored specifically for the individual patient. An endoscope is used to look inside the sinuses, by way of the nostrils, therefore no cuts are made to the face. Mucous membrane is removed and the sinus drainage pathways are unblocked and enlarged if necessary.
A FESS is carried out under general anaesthetic and you can normally go home the following day.
