Mr Ali completed his education in Newcastle upon Tyne. He was awarded a scholarship to study medicine at Aberdeen University where he completed his basic medical degree. He then continued his basic surgical training in London and rotated through some of the countries leading specialist centres. These included St Bartholomew’s hospital, The Royal National orthopaedic hospital, and continued both research and clinical work at University College London, where he gained a doctorate of Medicine. The training journey continued south west and included Exeter, Gloucester and Bristol. Finally ending with a fellowship in France. Mr Ali was appointed as a consultant laparoscopic surgeon to Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS trust. He is one of the countries leading laparoscopic surgeons and is the lead upper gastrointestinal surgeon for Kent. He is also the programme director for training in West Kent, and the National lead for research network for the Kent region, as well as being the surgical tutor for Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trusts. He has a private practice at McIndoe Surgical Centre, East Grinstead.
